Terrace furniture that survives a British winter

The UK does not have an extreme climate — it has a persistently wet one. Frost cycles and eight months of humidity find every weak joint, every untreated fixing and every foam cushion that cannot drain.

Frames: marine-grade aluminium or FSC teak

Powder-coated marine-grade aluminium will not rust, will not rot and can be left out all year. Teak is the traditional alternative and will silver gracefully; both are specified in our Terrace Series. Steel, even galvanised, will eventually weep rust in a British winter.

Fixings are the real failure point

Stainless A4 fixings throughout. A frame in an excellent material assembled with ordinary fixings will stain and eventually loosen — it is the single most common fault we see on furniture brought to us for repair.

Cushions must drain, not resist

Quick-dry reticulated foam with an open cell structure lets water pass straight through, wrapped in solution-dyed acrylic covers that hold their colour under UV and wash without shrinking. Standard upholstery foam holds water like a sponge.

Feet and levelling

British patios move. Adjustable feet with a wide bearing pad stop a table rocking after the first winter and keep timber ends off standing water.

Winter care that actually matters

Furniture can stay out; cushions should not. Store covers dry, and give teak a wash each spring. That is the whole maintenance regime.
